Frequently Asked Questions

When will Budapest Filmbox 2 be released?

We are working at full steam—and often, pushing even beyond that. Expected Release: June 2026. The narrator will be a deeply beloved Hungarian actor… but as for their identity, that remains a secret for now.

How are the Filmbox films created?

They are the culmination of years devoted to visual research, curation, and animation. We tirelessly seek the most exquisite and compelling archival photographs of each specific location, breathing life into them through diverse animation techniques. A significant portion of this imagery originates from the Fortepan collection—and we take this opportunity to thank them for their vital work.

Were these films created using Artificial Intelligence?

No. The authentic preservation of our shared past is a duty of the highest order, one that demands more than machine logic. We have not fabricated historical imagery, nor have we employed AI in our animation process. The hundreds of archival photographs featured in these films were brought to life by four feeling human beings—with patience, and with love.

Is the Budapest Filmbox a tablet?

Far from it. It is a specialized audiovisual device. It possesses no operating system and no internet connectivity (meaning it offers a sanctuary from the noise of social media). It exists for a singular purpose: to display these films with beauty and elegance. Upon opening, a magnetic sensor automatically initiates playback — sound included. The audio, naturally, can be muted with a single button.

How long is the playback time?

A full charge provides approximately 5 hours of continuous viewing. It recharges rapidly, much like a mobile phone. When the cover is closed, the device preserves its battery life completely, ensuring no power is drained while idle.

How do I charge it, and how long does it take?

It charges via the included USB cable. From a completely depleted state, a full recharge takes approximately 1.5 hours.

Are there any hidden costs?

None. The price listed on the website is all- inclusive, covering both the charger and shipping fees.

Can I skip between films?

Yes. You can also mute the audio—perfect for moments when you are traveling on a train, yet still wish to immerse yourself in the past.
